Over the past four weeks, you’ve read the story of Amy Hansel and Emily Peters and their efforts to build Communities of Crocus — a community of homes, apartments, and support services for disabled people and their caregivers and loved ones.
I’ve written about the inspiration for their idea — the needs of their sons, Dane and Gaige, who, due to their high support needs, wouldn’t be able to be properly accommodated at most current communities for disabled people. I’ve shared the words and thoughts of two of Emily and Amy’s other sons — Odin and Denzel, who, like their brothers are autistic but have the ability to live more independently with some supports — supports that would also be available at Communities of Crocus. And I’ve detailed some of the amenities and accommodations that will be available in the community, as well as how to support them as they fundraise for their project.
