Hello to all my “Learning from their Stories” readers! I’m hopping onto Substack to post this quick bonus newsletter I felt compelled to write after several discussions I had about Medicaid on Friday and then a lovely event I attended on Saturday morning.

Last month, in my series about Sandra Lomeli and her kids, I wrote about Sandra’s efforts to protect Medicaid — the program through which disabled people (among others) receive many of the services and resources they need to keep them safe and healthy.

Although much of the news over the past several months has focused on the threat to Medicaid funding in the federal budget process, many Wisconsin advocates mobilized in April to prevent cuts from the state government. Sandra was one of them.
